CTV News Toronto
July 3, 2024

Summary:

A recent survey by the Angus Reid Institute found that nearly 40% of Ontarians are considering leaving the province due to high housing costs.

This percentage is the highest among Canadian provinces, followed by British Columbia (36%) and Nova Scotia (25%).

Among Ontarians contemplating a move, 26% consider moving abroad, with Alberta, the US, and Atlantic Canada also being popular destinations.

Younger Ontarians (18-34) are nearly twice as likely (46%) to consider moving compared to those aged 55+ (26%).

Recent immigrants (in Canada for 10 years or less) are more likely to consider moving (39%) than the general population (28%).

Despite a slight decrease in Toronto home prices, concerns about affordability persist, but 58% of Ontarians remain hopeful about future housing affordability improvements.

The survey, conducted between June 14 and June 20, has a margin of error of 1.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
